The 2 main patients stories relate to an expectant couple with a form of dwarfism and a second expectant couple where the husband is serious injured in an explosion.
Shelagh is first on the scene at the explosion near the docks and helps some of the injured, and sees the bad safety problems there. She is helped by a non-practicing nurse called Valerie.
Patsy learns her father is dying in Hong Kong and she need to be with him which means being apart from Delia (without a goodbye kiss due to an interruption), but their relationship is spotted by someone who helps Delia after Patsy leaves. We also see Delia at the hospital where she is learning midwifery.
Sister Ursula bans sweets and being nice and helpful to the patients but the nurses and even the nuns who have vows of obedience find ways around this.
Shelagh and Patrick tell the children about the new baby.

All except Trixie return from south Africa, as Trixie is staying there to run the hospital for a bit. Everyone is surprised when Sister Ursula who has temporarily been in charge is placed in charge full time and Sister Julienne has to work under her.
Sister Ursula bans TV and removes it (I think she has I in her room), she makes Sister Mary Cynthia have a near nervous breakdown following gbher attach last series and ignores advice from Dr Turner and Sister Julienne about he car and sends her to the mother house in Chichester. Patsy gts address news about her father inHong Kong who is asking for her but this will mean she said separated from her secret girlfriend Delia who is now a trainee midwife.
The main patient story is about domestic violence and helping the woman to escape to safety with her children.
In good news it appears South Africa has magical abilities to cure fertility problems as Sheilagh reveals to Patrick that she is pregnant.
