I visited the gallery on a Sunday morning. It is free to enter with charges for some exhibitions.

As its name suggests the vast majority of the works on display are portraits (mainly of well-known people) but it does include some sculptures and statues.

It is slightly tucked away looking like an extra wing of the National Gallery.

It is interesting for history fans as it places the art in a logical order with separate areas for different periods of history, so if you are particularly interested in the Tudors or Victorians you can look at the people from those periods.

It has 2 shops one focusing on books and the other on souvenirs a cafe in the basement and a table service restaurant on the 3rd floor, both of which are a bit overpriced.

The normal entry fee here is £10 (free for National Trust Members). Guided walks are available on certain days and are included in the entry fee.

The autumn colours are nice, but the entry kiosk can cause delays and confusion when meeting for guided walks, the shop and cafe are combined and very small which makes it hard to use.

This is a delightful little museum, tucked away behind the Barbican and Smithfield.

It dates back to the 14th century and was originally a monastery. After the dissolution, it became a mansion, a school and almshouses.

The museum features artefacts from the history of the buildings, a chapel and a small shop.

This is a scale model of central London, showing where different sites and attractions are. It is a bit hidden away, in a basement down the side of the Guildhall art gallery.

This small church is located on the Guildhall complex.  It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren to replace one on the same site that was destroyed by the Fire of London.

These remains of a Roman amphitheatre are entered through the basement of the Guildhall Art Gallery. It isn’t very large (most of the amphitheatre is under the courtyard outside) but gives an idea through the use of modern technology of what it was like.

This art gallery has a number of works and exhibitions. Much of the art focuses on Lindon, although it does cover more than just the square mile of the city.

This is the headquarters of the City of London council, covering the square mile if the City. On Open House weekend you can explore many of the staterooms some dating back centuries, at your leisure.

This is an interesting little museum located in a series of rooms just inside a public library.

The museum has free audio guides to help you navigate the exhibits showing the history of the City of London Police. It includes exhibits used in court cases, items from the Moorgate Crash and attacks on London.
