This exhibition explained how they excavated the sites in London for Crossrail and had items recovered from the sites ranging from Roman artefacts through to more recent items.

Free museums with some paid for exhibitions. This museum focuses on british maritime history, and at the time of visiting included free exhibitions on slavery and the Battle of Jutland.

Greenwich Royal Observatory and Planetarium (August 2017)

This is a paid for site (included in memberships of Greenwich museums) where you can see a variety of shows at the planetarium and see exhibits about the history of astronomy and time measurements at Greenwich. You can also stand either side of the prime meridian.

National Maritime Museum – Death in the Ice – The Shocking Story of Franklin’s Final Expedition

This interesting exhibition provides a background into the final expedition of Sir John Franklin and his team. No one knows exactly what happened but it explains what is known from the limited amount of evidence they have managed to find and allows you to come to your own theories.

They have also got flags outside the museum to represent each life lost on the expedition

Regents Park 2017 – Freize Scultupes

A number of sculptures from the past few years are being shown in Regent’s Park for free. They are a very eclectic mix and only have a small amount of informaiton on each. The lagest one seemed to be an alomst life size elephany balancing on its trunk.

Small free museum on the sea front with limited opening hours. It has some boats and artefacts from the beach.

Brighton Pavilion

Indian style palace in Brighton built by the then Prince Regent for entertaining friends in Brighton. It is set in a nice gardening is free for Art Fund Members.

No photos allowed inside and audio guides costs extra.

At the time of visiting it had an exhibition on Jane Austen who possibly never visited Brighton but mentioned it in novels and she had links with royalty.

Brighton

Popular seaside destination set of a hill with a station at the top of the hill leading down to the shingle beach.

It has 1 functioning pier (see separate review) and a ruined pier, there is sometimes a land train, but it was being renovated at the time of visiting.

Travelling there on Thameslink tends to be cheaper but slightly longer than Southern trains.

London Zoo – Zoorasic Park

Animatronic dinosaurs included in a temporary installation at London Zoo.

It is in a very small area and only has a small number of dinosaurs but they move their heads and arms and also make noises.

Brighton Museum

Local Brighton museum which has an eclectic mix of exhibits ranging from ancient Egypt, through to costumes, local history of Brighton and local football memorabilia.

At the time of visiting it also had a special exhibition on the painter Constable and he time he spent in Brighton.

It used to be free but now has a fee but is free for Art Fund members.
