Steel Magnolias – Richmond Theatre 7.30pm Wednesday 25 January 2023

This is the original play that was adapted into the 1989 film.

It’s about a group of 6 1980s women in Louisiana across a period of about 2 years and what they talk about in Truvy’s salon. Unlike the film, the play doesn’t leave the salon and the supporting characters are only referred to. Having just rewatched the film that wasn’t a problem for me.

I found the humour funnier than in the film and the sad part not so upsetting as you don’t watch it happening.

It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Back to the Future: The Musical, Adelphi Theatre 2.30pm Saturday 14 January 2023

Today it was my density to get great seats for ÂŁ25, with an on-the-day Rush ticket to see the energetic (1.21 gigawatts worth) rhythmic ceremonial rituals in Back the Future the Musical at the Adelphi Theatre for the first time since 2021.

It was my second time seeing it with a Rush ticket. On my first visit, I was in the stalls close to the McFly zone, and I was pleased I got to see it from a different angle. I could see the stage floor & grooves in it – although the floor was darkened during certain special effects with the car & I still couldn’t see how all the moves were made at the big effect at the end.

It was just as great as the first time I saw it.

Mother Goose at Duke of York’s Theatre, 12 noon Sunday 8 January 2023

Following the announcement that ÂŁ25 Rush Tickets with Todat Tix I tried and was successful getting a great aisle seat n the stalls.

It was hilariously bonkers, and included stand up, political satire, plenty of jokes, songs, laughs and corpsing in the cake making scene.

Elf: The Musical at Dominion Theatre at 2.30pm Saturday 7 January 2023

Managed to get reduced-price seats for the penultimate performance thanks to TKTS.

This is a stage musical of the classic Christmas movie about Buddy, a human, who accudebtialy ends up at the North Pole as a baby, is raised by elces and then discovers his true identity.

There were some changes to adapt it to the stage, the music was different, atess only appeared at the start (possibly to save the ensembles knees), but were very amusing, no papa elf, and a couple of small sense such as the snow ball fight and decorating the apartment, but it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours, and despite the young age of some audience members the audience was well behaved.

It spread Christmas Cheer in the best way – singing loud for all to hear and only a cotton headed ninnymuggins would find nothing to smile about.
