This is the original play that was adapted into the 1989 film.
It’s about a group of 6 1980s women in Louisiana across a period of about 2 years and what they talk about in Truvy’s salon. Unlike the film, the play doesn’t leave the salon and the supporting characters are only referred to. Having just rewatched the film that wasn’t a problem for me.
I found the humour funnier than in the film and the sad part not so upsetting as you don’t watch it happening.
It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
