The Snowman- Peacock Theatre – 11am Saturday 16 December 2023

First show of my first ever 3 show day.

I got the cheapest available seat on the day which was £25. The view was perfectly good and I have had far worse views for a higher charge.

As with the animated short film there isn’t any talking. There is music played throughout with ballet-type dancing, with some flying on wires within the confines of the stage. Quite a few of the younger audience members got restless throughout but the rake meant you could reasonably easily still see the stage – the problems only occurred when it was the adult audience members who were fidgeting with phones.

They only had a digital programs which was a bit disappointing, but it was a nice show to start my day.

I, Daniel Blake – Theatre Royal Stratford East – 2.30pm Thursday 26 October 2023

I made my first visit to the theater Royal Stratford East. The theatre felt a little cramped and the stage was incredibly high which although it reduced the problem of having your view blocked by tall people, meant that most in the stalls couldn’t see the floor of of the stage.

I saw the updated stage adaptation of the Ken Loach film I, Daniel Blake. Some updates had been made to the story since the film – including words said by various politicians since then about what they think about those living in poverty.

Unfortunately, the story remains more relevant than ever today – as shown by the food bank collection at the theatre.

A Haunting in Venice

This is the 3rd Kenneth Brannagh Poirot film. It is now 1947 and Poirot has retired to Venice. An old associate the who done it author Ariadne Oliver persuades him to visit a seance with her where mysterious events occur and people start dying.

It has a few jump scares and a bit of a weird story, with supernatural elements and some ambiguous back stories, in this lesser known story.

Accidental Death of an Anarcist – Theatre Royal Haymarket – Saturday 2

This is a satirical farce about corruptions and cover ups involved in deaths in police custody.

Despite the subject matter there are laughs at the absurdity of what occurs during an investigation of an earlier “accidental death of an anarchist” who “fell” out of a window during questioning and died.

Stonehenge Sunday 8 May 2022

Great visit to Stonehenge on the Stonehenge bus from Salisbury station.  Stonehenge was busy but not as crowded as I feared.

It was interesting to walk around the stones and saw some sheep and cows too.

I used my English Heritage membership to get in but there is no discount in the shop or cafe.

London Wetlands Centre (visited 5 May 2022)

I arrived after lunch and the otters were asleep until just before feeding time, and quite a few birds were asleep too.

There were some duckings and chicks along with nesting birds, and sheep and cows grazing.

Kew Gardens – Orchids 2022

The orchid show is back after a break last year due to the pandemic. This years theme is Costa Rica. There is a set one-way system which means you can’t really go back if you want another look at anything and the routes cross near the exit which can cause problems.8/10
