A Bit of Waiting for Godot -Lockdown Theatre

This special Zoom virtual table read in support of the Royal Theatrical Fund starred Joanna Lumley as the (self-titled) Narratress, Robert Lindsay as Estragon and Sir Michael Palin as Vladamir in  Samuel Beckett’s play.

The play is a bit odd and seems to be about two depressed men talking to each other waiting for Godot to arrive to meet them (spoiler – Godot doesn’t turn up).

Despite the limits of the virtual setting with each performer performing from their own homes (including a phone going off at one point), it was impressive that they still had some costumes, props and movement and the narration using the stage directions helped to set the scene.

The main problem was that it was too short as the entire event was only an hour, including an introduction and Q & A. This meant they only included the start and end of the play (about 30 minutes worth of a 2.5-hour play).
