Chicago – Wimbledon Theatre 7.30pm Tuesday 17 May 2022

I had seen the movie but never the stage version of this musical about (alleged) murderesses in 1920s Chicago.

I got an on the day late reduced price online ticket for the opening night. I paid £20 for a stalls seat that was originally £30 and had a good view for nearly everything -a couple of points I had to slouch down to see what was happening up ladders, but most of the time it was great.

The staging had the orchestra and conductelor on-stage throughout and they participated and seemed to have a lot of fun as did the audience. There was a tiny bit of disruption somewhere on the stalls near the end and the performers didn’t always wait for the whoops and cheers to end, so sometime their lines were drowned out. There also seemed to be a couple of near small slips on foil confetti during the finale which helped add to the live element.

9/10
