Sheila’s Island – Richmond Theatre 2.30pm Saturday 30 April 2022

I paid ÂŁ13 for stalls seats 3 rows from the back which had an acceptable view, but as there were a high number of empty seats I moved to an even better seat.

The story and character development felt a bit disjointed but was an amusing couple of hours about women who end up lost on an outward bound event from work.

Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)

The new Downton film continued the stories started in the first film with Tom & Lucy and Andy & Daisy’s marriages, a very brief mention of Edith and Bertie’s (unseen as he was “with a nanny”) baby son and (unfortunately) Violet’s frailty.

There are some red herings in the story lines and a film crew and a trip to France to uncover Violet’s “mysterious past” are the main stories.

Although there is a very sad part, it is expected by most fans and there is a lot of humour with some even during the deathbed scene. It was also nice to see all the servants (except perhaps the hall boy and any extras) seem to end up settled.

The Book of Mormon – Prince of Wales Theatre – 2.30pm Saturday 23 April 2022

I got an on the day Rush Ticket from TodayTix for ÂŁ25 and the view was great.

The show does include absence and offensive language and pokes fun at religions (not just Mormonism, Judaism and Christianity get it too) and race, but in a silly and hilarious way.

Unfortunate mask wearing was very low (nearly double figures) despite the official guidance remaining to wear them in enclosed crowded spaces- and it looked like it was a full house.

The Lost City (2022)

This was an entertaining action comedy romance about an author who ends up kidnapped and on a quest. It stars Sandra Bullock and Channing Tattum with supporting roles for Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt.

Operation Mincemeat (2022)

This British film is based on a true WW2 story about how the British deceived the Nazis about the allied invasion of Sicily.

It was an interesting story about a little known WW2 event.

Coda (2022)

I saw this film thanks to Curzon Cinemas putting on showing of this film that was released on Apple TV and won best film at the 2022 Oscars.

Coda is an acronym for a child of deaf adults, and this film is about a 17 year old who is the only hearing member of her family who rely on her in their fishing business. She becomes torn between helping her family and realising her talent and love for singing.

Small Island – National Theatre: Olivier Theatre 2pm Saturday 9 April 2022

I don’t normally see straight plays – I normally prefer comedies, musicals or who done its. However, with ÂŁ20 seats, I thought I’d give this a go – although this did have some amusing moments and music.

The seat was at the back of the circle but was a better view than more expensive seats in Theateland.

It was an interesting play about post war migration from Jamaica to the UK, and how the differing attitudes of the British affected them.

Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Disappointing script and story line with a lorlt of ret con from the books, previous films and official cannon information from the Wizarding World, particularly concerning ages of certain characters ages, the years earlier events occurred, circumstances of a death and no mentions of Nagni or Professor Dippet.

The actors do well despite the problems and if there are future films hopefully they will help fill the multitude of massive plot holes.
