I saw this as part of a 2 show day along with the matinee of & Juliet. Both were Rush Tickets from TodayTix and it took about 15 mins effort if constant refreshing to get this ticket.
It was well with the effort as the show was a very funny show with elements of farce/slapstick and poking fun at some of the weird bits of Shskespears work and the times he wrote in.
It was a sort of sequel to the BBC sitcom with some of the same cast reprising their roles. It covered issues frequently found in Shakespeare’s work including gender fluidity, sexuality, BAME representation and the position of women in society.
It was also exciting to witness my first post-lockdown “show stop”. It was odd at first as David Mitchell and Gemma Whelan just suddenly walked off stage, then announced that there was a problem and asked the audience to remain in their seats, and the curtain lowered. Then David Mitchel came on in front of the curtain to explain it wasn’t a major problem, and they would be continuing soon. They did just that soon afterwards, returning a few lines when they restarted. As the stop was just before the character of Mr Whiskers was introduced, my guess would be a problem with his costume.
10/10
