My Fair Lady – London Coliseum – 2pm Saturday 28 May 2022

I got an on the day ÂŁ25 “Rush ticket” from TodayTix. The face value of the seat seemed to be about ÂŁ95, so I got good value.

There were underestimated on for Mrs Higgins and Freddy (the latter making his debut – he was very good).

The sound was a bit odd right at the stat with some echoing but that only lasted a couple of minutes.

Overall it was a good production of the classic musical.

Chicago – Wimbledon Theatre 7.30pm Tuesday 17 May 2022

I had seen the movie but never the stage version of this musical about (alleged) murderesses in 1920s Chicago.

I got an on the day late reduced price online ticket for the opening night. I paid ÂŁ20 for a stalls seat that was originally ÂŁ30 and had a good view for nearly everything -a couple of points I had to slouch down to see what was happening up ladders, but most of the time it was great.

The staging had the orchestra and conductelor on-stage throughout and they participated and seemed to have a lot of fun as did the audience. There was a tiny bit of disruption somewhere on the stalls near the end and the performers didn’t always wait for the whoops and cheers to end, so sometime their lines were drowned out. There also seemed to be a couple of near small slips on foil confetti during the finale which helped add to the live element.

Old Sarum (Sunday 8 May 2022)

This English Heritage ruin is on the Stonehenge Tour bus tkroute from.Salisbury station.

This is a ruined Saxon castle that William the Conquerer “acquired”. You get good views, and you can also see the remains of the first cathedral.

Stonehenge Sunday 8 May 2022

Great visit to Stonehenge on the Stonehenge bus from Salisbury station.  Stonehenge was busy but not as crowded as I feared.

It was interesting to walk around the stones and saw some sheep and cows too.

I used my English Heritage membership to get in but there is no discount in the shop or cafe.

To Kill A Mockingbird – Gielgud Theatre 2.30pm Saturday 7 May 2022

This play was brilliant. Thanks to a ÂŁ15 on the day Rush Ticket from TodayTix I had row B io n the stalls. It was the front row and although the stage was very high cutting off the lower legs or feet of the performers a lot of the time, it isn’t a musical or dance show so that didn’t really matter.

Although it is a play with a serious message there were moments of humour in this story about 3 children trying to undersrand racial injustice in the deep south of America in the 839s and in particular a court case where the father of 2 of the children is defending a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman.

It does have quite a lot of time jumps back and forward which are dealt with well (but that is from someone familiar with the novel and movie) as are the changes to the simple scenery and props.

London Wetlands Centre (visited 5 May 2022)

I arrived after lunch and the otters were asleep until just before feeding time, and quite a few birds were asleep too.

There were some duckings and chicks along with nesting birds, and sheep and cows grazing.

New Malden Pizza Express

The service was fast, the Margarita pizza and pink apple juice wamere nice. The mixed salad side was overwhelmed with leaves, but the different coloured tomatoes were surprisingly good. I has a 50% off pizzas offer on the app, I was able to pay via the app but not order.

Back Widow (2021)

This film largely features what Black Widow/ Natasha Romanoff was up to between the events of Captain America Civil War and Avengers Infinity War, but also has a bit of her back story and also post credits has a spoiler about Avengers Endgame.

It is a bit odd that this came out after Endgame, rather than in the correct chronological order and she doesn’t refer to the events in this film in Infitity War or Endgame making the film seem a bit pointless.

Paw Patrol: The Movie (2021)

I watched this having never seen the show. It is about a small town called Adventure Bay, where for some reason not covered in the film the emergency services are led by a boy and his team of puppies.

The main stories in the film are about an evil mayor in Adventure City who doesn’t like Paw Patrol and wants to imprison all dogs, the police puppy who has a cross of confidence, and a puppy who wants to join Paw Patrol.

Walk Review

London Loop Section 1 Erith to Bexley

Erith has a pier which although it is just for walking and fishing, provides nice views of the Thames.

The walk has lots of views of the Dartford Crossing over the Thames but is also quite industrial until the long winding walk through Crayford Marshes, where you see some horses, reeds, some industrial buildings and the small rivers Darent and Cray.

Crayford has a large Aldi and Sainsburys, just off the walking route with toilets, but while Aldi only had one toilet, Sainsbury’s had many.

Then there was a park and more walking by a small river, followed by a complicated route to get to the other side of a dual carriageway and railway line to some woods. The woods were quiet and had lots of nice bluebells.

Finally, I emerged into Bexley where there was a church with a slightly odd-looking steeple, and then onto the station.
