Peter Rabbit (2018)

This was a lot better than I was expecting from this modernised CGI and live-action adaptation of the Beatrix Potter story.   The short musical interludes were a bit weird, but on the whole, it was an amusing and enjoyable update about Peter, his sisters and their cousin, who are the enemies of the McGregors and are friends with an artist called Bea who paints them (similar to Beatrix Potter).

Crussh – Green Goddess juice

This was on special offer for £2 small juice. The normal price is £4.

It has apple, kiwi, pear, lime, cucumber, spinach & celery freshly juiced. It tastes nice but was only at room temperature rather than chilled.

I think the full price is too high for what you get.

Tate Britain – British Baroque: Power and Illusion

I visited this exhibition for free during members weekend opening before the gallery was open to the public.  The non-member’s entry fee is £16.

The exhibition looks at a variety of Baroque works from the Stuart period.  It includes information on some of the largest painting including the painted ceiling at Greenwich.

Tate Britain – Aubrey Beardsley

I visited this exhibition for free during weekend members opening before the gallery was open to the public.  The normal entry fee for non-members is £16.

This exhibition looks at the sometimes surreal work and the short life of the victorian artist Aubrey Beardsley who died at 25, who he was inspired by and who he later inspired.

Hampton Court Gardens (6 March 2020)

I visited using Historic Royal Palaces membership which gives unlimited entry to a number of properties. The non-member’s gate price is £24.50, with a small reduction if you book online.

If you just want to visit the wilderness area of the gardens (where most of the daffodils are) that is free to everyone, but you need a ticket or membership to visit the palace and the formal gardens once the palace opens at 10am (you can often visit the formal gardens for free if you enter via the gate in the wilderness that is only open 9am-10am.

Today was a bit early to see the daffodils and the other spring flowers in their full glory, but there were areas where there were reasonably big areas of daffodils. There was also a bit of building and restoration work going on.

Veggie Pret – Vegan Chuna Mayo

This cost £2.99.

It has chickpeas in a seasoned sauce with cucumber slices, chopped red onion and its of rocket leaves in a white baguette.

I was pleasantly surprised at the taste and texture of the “Chuna”, but, for me, there was far too much rocket for the size of sandwich

McDonalds – Big Mac Sauce

This cost 50p for a small sealed pot.  you get more sauce than in the free pots you can get of ketchup and barbeque sauce.

I tried it with fries and veggie dippers.  It made a change from the free sauces – particularly as the wider pot made it easier to dip things in it.  It tasted a bit tangy, and it is nice to finally make it available to vegetarians (it isn’t vegan as it mentions egg yolk in the ingredients), but ideally, it should be part of the free sauces available.

Victoria and Albert Museum – Filthy Lucre: Whistler’s Peacock Room Reimagined

This is a recreation of James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s Peacock Room from the 1800s. This was a dining room located close to the V&A.

The installation is free to visit and is located close to the main entrance. It doesn’t look much like a dining room as it has no furniture in it.

Military Wives (2020)

I saw this as a free preview.

This comedy-drama is loosely based on how the first military wives choir was established, by the wives left behind on an army base when their husbands and partners were deployed to Afganistan.

It does have some comedic elements but has emotional ones too. It ignores any publicity that military wices choirs got from Gareth Malones TV series.
