Cinderella: The Musical – Gillian Lynne Theatre, London – 3pm Sunday 6 March 2022

I got a reduced price ticket through the London Theatre Week sale on the Todaytix app. I paid £25 for a seat in the circle that has a face value of £65 (minus booking fees) – although they seem to offer “dynamic pricing” at times so unsold seats are cheaper close to the performance.

It was a good central view, and the seats were well tiered – with very high backs. This theatre also has a rare theatre feature of an escalator from the doors to the main foyer.

This musical is a retelling of the classic take with a story by Emerald Fennel with music and lyrics from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I went with low expectations after checking out the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was amusing, and I liked the songs. The FAQ on the website warns that there is some swearing and “adult themes” but from.what I overheard at the interval some families with small children obviously missed that.

However, when it “goes in the round”, the centre sears if the circle become partly obscured views which was disappointing and the mask wearing advice was only a notice on the doors which the vast majority ignored – possibly as low as 5% of considerate mask wearing. It also took a very long time to get out of the theatre due to blockages of people from the other levels on the stairs.

7/10
