The Railway Children Return (2022)

This is a sequel to the 1970 film. In this film set in WW2, with 3 evacuees Dublin’s coming to stay. Bobbie is a WW1 widow (we get no confirmation if she ended up marrying Jim), with an adult daughter Annie who’s husband is off fighting, and a grandson Thomas.

There is brief mention of Peter (who died in WW1) and Phylis (not specifically stared but it is assumed she had also died – her husband/widower visits.

It is a pleasant enough story, with a few references to the original, but for me I would of preferred more.

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

This continuation of Marvel’s Thor saga includes appearances from the Guardians of the Galaxy and past characters from the Thor universe and Thor’s quest to find vanquish the God Butcher and try to find love.

It was quite funny & entertaining, but does require you to be aware of multiple earlier films to fully understand what is going on (even with Korg’s recaps at various points).

Lightyear (2022)

This is an origin story of sorts for Buzz Lightyear and is the movie Andy’s toy was based on.

It is about space ranger Buzz, who ends up marooning a spaceship full of people on a plant. He then decides to make it his mission to figure out how to make their hyperdrive work again, but each time he tests it more time passes on the planet than it does for Buzz.

It was an enjoyable animated adventure.

Good Luck to you Leo Grande (2022)

This comedy stars Emma Thompson as a widowed retired RE teacher who wants to broaden her sexual experiences, so she hires a sex worker.

The film is reanably short and has some amusing moments, but nothing hilarious.

Jurassic World: Dominion (2022)

This is billed as the finale to the Jurassic Park and World franchises and brings together the surviving main casts from both to try to help humans and dinosaurs to co-exist.

There are some exciting sequences, in-jokes from previous movies and as there maybe no more Jurassic movies you don’t know who is safe and who isn’t.

Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)

The new Downton film continued the stories started in the first film with Tom & Lucy and Andy & Daisy’s marriages, a very brief mention of Edith and Bertie’s (unseen as he was “with a nanny”) baby son and (unfortunately) Violet’s frailty.

There are some red herings in the story lines and a film crew and a trip to France to uncover Violet’s “mysterious past” are the main stories.

Although there is a very sad part, it is expected by most fans and there is a lot of humour with some even during the deathbed scene. It was also nice to see all the servants (except perhaps the hall boy and any extras) seem to end up settled.

The Lost City (2022)

This was an entertaining action comedy romance about an author who ends up kidnapped and on a quest. It stars Sandra Bullock and Channing Tattum with supporting roles for Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt.

Operation Mincemeat (2022)

This British film is based on a true WW2 story about how the British deceived the Nazis about the allied invasion of Sicily.

It was an interesting story about a little known WW2 event.

Coda (2022)

I saw this film thanks to Curzon Cinemas putting on showing of this film that was released on Apple TV and won best film at the 2022 Oscars.

Coda is an acronym for a child of deaf adults, and this film is about a 17 year old who is the only hearing member of her family who rely on her in their fishing business. She becomes torn between helping her family and realising her talent and love for singing.

Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Disappointing script and story line with a lorlt of ret con from the books, previous films and official cannon information from the Wizarding World, particularly concerning ages of certain characters ages, the years earlier events occurred, circumstances of a death and no mentions of Nagni or Professor Dippet.

The actors do well despite the problems and if there are future films hopefully they will help fill the multitude of massive plot holes.
